Richie Incognito was suspended indefinitely by the Miami Dolphins for alleged racial slurs, intimidation and bullying. A great article in Yahoo sports relates that one problem is that the NFL does not support on site therapist resources. One wonders why the Incognito thing went so far that Martin left the team and filed a misconduct complaint against Incognito. Chad Ochocinco was said to have discussed his “problem” at a team meeting but was reportedly met with silence and walked out. What is the solution to all of this? In part, one issue is our society today in which football and and profit come first and character, last. Witness Penn State. Abuse had gone on for years! This author reached out to the NFLPA to offer DV program and assistance. Unfortunately, no response was ever received. The situation cries out for the NFL to step up and support on site therapeutic intervention and for teams to have a zero tolerance policy for racially offensive conduct and intimidation. The players need to know that they can reach out to the team and the league knowing that they will be embraced by a supportive network. Martin was reportedly a tortured soul! This situation should never be allowed to repeat!
